Services for Eldon “Curly” Lee, 83, of Ruthven, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at United Methodist Church of Ruthven. Rev. Jim Gochenouer will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery of Ruthven.

Eldon passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, in Iowa City.

Eldon “Curly” Lee, son of Oliver “Twisty” and Edna (Meyers) Lee, was born Aug. 28, 1924, in Ruthven. He received his education in the Ruthven Public School system. He served in the United States Navy during WWII.

On July 4, 1947, Eldon was united in marriage to Shirley Schnell in Jackson, Minnesota. To this union two children were born, Karen and Bob.

Curly worked as a mechanic at an implement shop in Spencer, for Mullen Construction as well as farming. He later did custom harvesting and trucking during wheat harvest throughout the Midwest, retiring in 1993. For five summers, from 2002 until 2006, Curly was the camp groundskeeper and fishing guide at Jerry’s Country Estates in DeSmet, S.D.

Curly was a member of the Ruthven United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion in Venango, Nebraska and the V.F.W. Post No. 2295 in Emmetsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Leonard and Lawrence; two brothers-in-law: Larry Olberding and Don Robertson; and two sisters-in-law: Peggy and Sue Lee.

Eldon is survived by his wife, Shirley of Ruthven; his children: Karen Fread and her husband, Roger of New Sharon, and Bob Lee and his wife, Rose of Ruthven; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; sisters: LauRene Olberding of Owatonna, Minn., Marie Robertson of Hot Springs, Ark., and Darlene Dettling and her husband, Jim of Plum City, Wis.; sister-in-law, Marlys Lee of Pequot Lakes, Minn.; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Pat Schell of Ruthven.

Arrangements are being handled by Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
