Sew-A-Thon scheduled in Spencer

Fabric and Textile Warehouse will be hosting a Sew-A-Thon from 10a.m.-3p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Spencer American Legion, North Hwy 71, Spencer.  Participants will be sewing adaptive clothing for wounded soldiers.  The clothing will be distributed free of charge through the non-profit organization "Sew Much Comfort".  Participants will be sewing fleece gaiter/boot bags to keep limbs with metal fixators warm during transport. Organizers invite the public to come and sew for our wounded soldiers. All projects are easy to sew.  Bring a sewing machine, scissor, and a sack lunch if planning to spend the day. Stop in to Fabric and Textile Warehouse or call 262-7660 to sign up. Help sew, cut, or fold -- come for the day or for a few hours, either way it will make a huge difference in the life of a soldier. For more information, call or check out "events" on our web site: www.fabrictextilewarehouse.com.  Fabric and Textile Warehouse will accept donations of new T-shirts and boxers to send to Sew Much Comfort to adapt.  If you or your organization would like to organize a T-shirt or boxer drive for Sew Much Comfort to adapt, we will gladly ship them with our items.

Owl Prowl Oct. 13

The Prairie Lakes Audubon Owl Prowl will take place at 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13 at Horseshoe Bend County Park. Meet at the shelter for hot dogs and chips, bring your own beverage, followed by nature activities and owl walk. Come enjoy this great family event.

Holiday Hugs program underway

Fabric and Textile Warehouse is also aiding the Blue Star Moms in collecting items for their "Holiday Hugs 2007" gift boxes which will be sent out to deployed soldiers for Christmas. A list of suggested items that are much appreciated include small boxes of candy (not chocolates as they may melt and make a gooey mess), individually wrapped candies (i.e. tootsie rolls), gum and fruit snacks or fruit roll-ups (no canned fruit cups), beef jerky, trail mix, nuts, individual powdered drink mixes to put in water bottles, Frisbees, yo-yo's, tennis balls, hacky sacks, card games, DVD's, crossword puzzles, black or white cotton crew socks, un-scented antiperspirants, travel size foot powder, gold bond powder, hand warmers, microwave popcorn, packets of instant oatmeal, cocoa mix or apple cider, sugar packets, creamer packets and tea bags.  Please drop these items off at Fabric and Textile Warehouse through Saturday, Oct. 13.  October is the time Christmas packages will be heading overseas for our service men and women, and we want them to know that we have not forgotten them, especially during the holidays.
