Farewell to Ruth

A special farewell for Ruth at Spencer Center Café is planned from 1-2:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28. Cake and punch will be served for the event.

BVU rep at SHS

A representative from Buena Vista University will visit Spencer High School at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. Students and their families wishing information about college admission procedures and financial aid are welcome to visit with George Green, admissions counselor at Buena Vista University.

SHS Band Boosters plan tailgate

Tailgate with the Spencer High School Band Boosters on Friday, Sept. 28. For $5 get a BBQ pork sandwich, cheesy hash browns, green bean casserole, and pop or water. Serving starts at 5:45 p.m. at Dale Norton Field.

Balloon Pop at homecoming game

The Spencer Community School Foundation will be hosting a Gift to Education Balloon Pop at the homecoming game Friday, Sept 28 between 6-7:30 p.m. For $1, game attendees can pop their balloons to win prizes. The grand prize will be a $500 gift to education.

Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge

The Spencer Area Knights of Columbus Chapter will host a Soccer Challenge at the Spencer Soccer Complex from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29. The events is for boys and girls ages 10-14.

VFW pancake benefit

The Clay County VFW Post 3159 will host a benefit pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30. Pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice and coffee will be served for a free will offering. Proceeds will go to Spencer Youth Bowling.

First half property taxes due

Sande Geidl, Clay County Treasurer, wishes to remind the citizens of Clay County, first half property taxes are due and payable by Sept. 30.  Due to the last day of September falling on the weekend, penalty will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 2. 

* You may pay in our office at 300 W. fourth St., Spencer, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Also, payments can be made by mail, internet, or in our drop boxes on both the north and south side of the Clay County Administration Building.

Clay County Democrats to meet

Clay County Democrats will meet at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1, at 419 East Second St.

Visually Impaired/Blind Self-Help meeting

The Spencer Area Visually Impaired/Blind Self-Help Group will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 1:30 p.m. in the Round Room of the Spencer Public Library.  Individuals of all ages with vision loss are invited to attend.  Friends and family are welcome.
