Early dismissal Wednesday

Early dismissal will take place for Spencer Community Schools at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26 for a teacher inservice.

PSY's free homecoming movie

PSY will hold its annual free movie and popcorn night in celebration of homecoming week at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the Spencer 3 Theater. The movie this year will be "Radio." All students in grades 7-12 are invited to attend.

Grace After School

The Grace After School Program (G.A.S.P.) is currently running on Wednesday's from 3:45-5 p.m.  Bus transportation is available, but please stop by the church office, or school transportation office to fill out a form, if bus transportation is needed. Our curriculum, Building on the Rock, is designed to help students interpret knowledge and build foundational beliefs and values from a Christian perspective. Join us for snacks, games, fellowship and fun.  Please note, we do not meet on any early-out Wednesdays!

Pixler retirement event

An appreciation and retirement come-and-go is being held for Ivan Pixler Jr., from 2-4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26. Ivan has sold Pixler Electric and will be retiring soon.

SHS Band Boosters plan tailgate

Tailgate with the Spencer High School Band Boosters on Friday, Sept. 28. For $5 get a BBQ pork sandwich, cheesy hash browns, green bean casserole, and pop or water. Serving starts at 5:45 p.m. at Dale Norton Field.

Fundraising dinner

The Spencer High School Band Boosters annual fundraiser dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30 in the SHS lunch room. Choice of ham or roast beef, green beans, cole slaw, dinner roll, milk or coffee. Bars and soft serve ice cream for dessert. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for kids 10 and under.

Loudray performing at Shaky Tree

Loudray will be performing at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29 at Shaky Tree Coffee. Loudray, a duo from St. Paul, Minn., feature bluegrass, country and rock 'n roll music. Two guys, two banjos and a lot of fun. There is no cover, but a suggested donation of $5 will go directly to the artists.

Parent Time Out Meeting

A Parent Time Out Meeting for Clay County is scheduled for 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1 at First Congregational Church. Questions, call (641) 220-3681.

Parent-to-Parent pledge deadline

Oct. 1 is the deadline for Spencer Middle School parents to sign a "parent-to-parent pledge" and have it included in a membership booklet that will be made available during fall parent-teacher conferences.

Christian Women's Prayer Connection

All area women are invited to the Okoboji Christian Women's Prayer Connection at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3.  This meeting is entitled "Pumpkin's Coming" and will be at the home of Pat Christiansen, 703 Mallard Creek Dr. in Pelican Ridge, Arnolds Park.  You will feel welcomed and will feel spiritually stronger as you meet and fellowship with new Christian friends.  Pat may be reached at (712) 332-2971, however no reservations are necessary.

MOPS to kick off year Oct. 4

Mothers with preschool-age children are in the midst of a key foundation-building time in life. Moms typically meet the needs of their young children, yet often sacrifice nurturing their own hearts and minds. MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) was created with these moms in mind! Join us for the fall kick-off meeting on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, from 9-11 a.m. at Hope Reformed Church in the Fellowship Hall. (Child care starts at 8:45am) Grow by establishing friendships with other like-minded moms, and be encouraged by experienced mentor moms. Enjoy a relaxing, peaceful atmosphere while your children are lovingly cared for by Christian volunteers. Pre-registration has begun.

Watercolor Mixed Media workshop

Jean Norris Larson, from Elmo, Minn., will be offering a watercolor mixed media workshop, from 6-9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 9. The class will discover ways to enhance watercolor and other mediums such as gouache, pastels and acrylics. Registration deadline is Sept. 28. Call Arts on Grand, 262-4307.

Walk For Mental Health Month

October is National Mental Health Awareness Month. Oak Haven Care Facility, NAMI and Seasons Center are hosting the first Walk-A-Thon at Oak Haven in Okoboji from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6. Please come walk for a great cause. Refreshments will be served at Oak Haven after the walk.
