Funeral services for Shirley Johnson Costa, 74, were held Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel of Pittsburg, Calif.
Shirley passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, after battling cancer.
Shirley was born to Leslie and Helen Johnson on Feb. 12, 1933. Shirley graduated from Spencer High School in 1951. Soon after, together, she and a sister ventured to California.
Shirley was named rodeo queen attendant by the Midwest Championship Rodeo in 1951. She was employed by the Poultry Processing Plant before moving to California.
Shirley married Paul Costa in 1952. Following their marriage, she sold Avon cosmetics several years becoming a member of the Avon President's Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Helen Johnson; and a brother, Marvin.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Paul; three daughters: Paula, Ann, and Laura; son, Robert; grandchildren; four brothers: Furman of Missouri, Robert of Spencer, Gary of Colo., and Jim of Texas; seven sisters: Lucille Siino and Audrey Costanza - both of Pittsburg, Calif., Mary Helen Nuovo of Hemet, Calif., Shy Pearson of Hartley, and June Goettsche, Phyllis Bates and Marilyn Zellaha -- all of Spencer.
