Mary Elsie Williams, 92, of Belmont, Calif., formerly of Spencer, Ft. Myers, Fla., and Palm Desert, Calif., passed away June 16, 2007, three days short of her 93rd birthday.
Mary was born and grew up in Missouri where she met her future husband George H. Williams. They married in 1929, and eventually settled in Spencer and Lake Okoboji, where her husband George and a partner owned the Spencer Daily Reporter They also owned interests in the Bemidji Daily Pioneer, Bemidji, Minnesota, the Lake County News Chronicle, Two Harbors, Minnesota, and the Daily Journal, Flat River, Missouri.
Mary was actively involved in managing the Lake County News Chronicle until her early 80's.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George; daughter, Joanne; grandson, George H. Williams, III.; and her loving friend and companion Paul Schantz of Palm Desert, Calif.
Mary is survived by son, George H. Williams, Jr. and wife Linda, of Bemidji, Minn.; daughter, Jean Papo and husband, Michael, of Belmont, Calif.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three-great-great-grandchildren.
