Robert 'Rob' Leon Wetherell

Funeral services for Mr. Robert "Rob" Leon Wetherell, 79, of Peterson, will take place at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at First Congregational Church of Peterson. Rev. Charles Hall will officiate the service.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 5-8 p.m.at the funeral home in Peterson.

Interment will take place at the Oakland Cemetery of Peterson.

Masonic services will be conducted by Abiff Lodge No. 347 and military services will be held by Dean Underwood Post 10.

Robert passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2007, at Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids.

Casket bearers will be Max Wetherell, Larry Dailey, Mick Wetherell, Ron Mueller, Denny Phillips and Ron Wetherell.

Robert, the son of Merle and Mae (Townsend) Wetherell, was born in Bridgewater, S.D.  As a young child, his family moved to Peterson, where he received his early education and graduated from the Peterson High School in 1946.

On Dec. 29, 1946, Rob married Mariana Dubois at her parent's home in Peterson.

Rob entered the United States Army on Jan. 16, 1952 serving during the Korean War.  He was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge on Dec. 23, 1953.  He returned to Peterson and farmed until 1970. He then purchased Wetherell Sand & Gravel from his father and operated the business until his health failed. Rob was a member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson, a Charter Member of the Peterson Lion's Club where for the past 37 years he had a perfect attendance; he was also a 50 year member of the Abiff Masonic Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Mason; twin brothers: Roy and Ray; and two grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Geisinger.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mariana of Peterson; his children: Laurie Rohde and her husband, Tom of Springfield, Mo., Doug Wetherell and his wife, Debra of Linn Grove, and Ann Geisinger and her husband, Eric of Peterson; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law: Toppy and Wilda Wetherell -- both of Peterson.

Warner Funeral Home of Peterson is in charge of arrangements.
