Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Maxine Rutledge, 84, of Spencer, will take place at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at First English Lutheran Church of Spencer. Rev. Dave Ericksen will officiate the service.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6-8 the funeral home in Spencer.

Interment will take place at the Faieview Cemetery of Terril.

Mabel passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2007, at Spencer Hospital.

Casket bearers will be Kevin Axtell, Roger Ambrose, Brad Anderson, Bill Rutledge, Ryan Rutter, Elwood Johnson, and Jodi and Scott Galloway.

Mabel, the daughter of Ray and Mae (Clark) Koppelman, was born Aug. 25, 1922, in Marshall, Minn. Mabel was raised and graduated from high school in Lake City.

She married Leo Rutledge on Sept. 21, 1941, and to this union, three children were born. They moved to Spencer in March of 1957. Leo and Mabel were livestock and grain farmers until Leo's retirement in 1985. Mabel loved working at the Senior Center as a cook for 20 years, retiring in 2002. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and belonged to the Women's Guild. She was also a member of the Progressive Neighborhood Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; and a brother, Delbert.

Mabel is survived by one son, Dennis Rutledge and his wife, Karen of Spencer; two daughters: Sheryl Engler and her husband, Lonn of Hackensack, Minn., and Marilyn Wilson and her husband, Keith of Milford; six grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Moore of Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
