Services for Frederick Melvin Exner, 74, of Peterson, will be held at 10:30 a.m., today, Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at United Methodist Church of Peterson. Rev. Roger Maize will officiate the service.

Casket bearers will be Tim Roberts, Troy Roberts, Anthony Roberts, Randy Schultz, Steve Exner and Frank Deman.

Interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery of Peterson.

Fred passed away at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday, July 21, 2007.

Frederick, the son of Frederick and Irene (Krogh) Exner, was born Jan. 16, 1933, in Weedsport, NY. His childhood years were spent in Weedsport, NY, where he received his education, graduating from Weedsport High School in 1951. Following his schooling, he worked in Weedsport and later Auburn, NY. Later, he traveled throughout the U.S. and worked until moving to Royal, where he met his future wife.

Fred married Emma Deman on May 16, 1983, in Peterson. Following their marriage, they lived in Peterson and later, Spencer, before settling in Peterson, where he resided at the time of his death. He worked for Jones Transfer and "The Electrick Company". Following his retirement, he worked part time for Helen's Laundry. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Peterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack; a sister, Helen; and his father and mother -in-law, Frank and Alice Deman.

Fred is survived by his wife, Emma of Peterson; their children: Tim and Trish Roberts of Spencer, Anthony Roberts of Winterset, Troy and Emerald Roberts of Sheffield, Tracy and Randy Schultz of Peterson, and Penny Exner of New York; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sister-in-laws: Josie Exner of Auburn, N.Y. and Fran Popp her husband, Duane of Dayton; and a brother-in-law, Frank Deman of Peterson.

Arrangements were handled by Warner Funeral Home of Peterson.
