Hazel Opal Pearson
Hazel Opal Pearson, 102, of Paullina, passed away on Monday, July 16, at the Paullina Care Center.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Archer. Rev. Jeremy Wiersema will officiate.
Interment will be Friday with a 2 p.m. graveside service in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. on Thursday, with the family present from 6:30 -- 8 p.m. at the Gaudian Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina.
Hazel, the daughter of Alpha and Emma (Houts) Earl was born Aug. 26, 1904, in Decatur, Neb. She moved with her family to Worthington, Minn., where she received her education. On Nov. 3, 1921, she was united in marriage to George Edgar Pearson in Sibley. After their marriage the couple lived in Jasper, Luverne and Kanranzee, Minn., before settling in the Allendorf area. While in Allendorf, she assisted her husband as a depot agent with the Rock Island Railroad and the couple operated a garage and trucking business. In 1955, they moved to the Archer area and owned and operated the Archer Grocery & Locker, until they retired in 1963.
Her husband preceded her in death on June 16, 1982. She remained in Archer until moving to the Paullina Care Center in 2003. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Archer.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Patsy Van Dyk; a son, Burdell Pearson; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; her parents; four brothers; and a sister.
Hazel is survived by five daughters: Phyllis Johns and her husband, Kenneth of Spencer, Geraldine (Gerry) Rusche and her husband, Delbert of Hartley, Delores (Dee) Saunders and her husband, Jerry of Paullina, Judy Drenth of Spencer, Joan Schuck and her husband, Dale of Sibley, 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.
The Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Paullina, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
