Funeral services for Mr. Dennis Francis Schuller, 93, of Spencer, will be held at 11 a.m., today, Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Spencer. Rev. Ed Murray will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery of Mallard at 2 p.m.

Dennis passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2007, at Spencer Hospital.

Casket bearers will be Dennis Thoma, Randy Schuller, Ryan Schuller, Jake Schuller, Greg Schuller and Neal Peterson.

Honorary casket bearers will be Mr. and Mrs. Mike Schmillen, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Severson, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Reed and Keith Sadker

Dennis, the son of Frank and Katherine (Neu) Schuller, was born April 19, 1914, in Mallard. He attended the Catholic School and Mallard Public School, graduating in 1931. After graduation, he worked with his father in the gravel business and farming.

He was united in marriage to Ferne Eckert on Feb. 8, 1937, in Mallard.  Dennis farmed and had the Schuller Dairy.  While living in Mallard, he helped start the 2nd Dairy Improvement Association in Iowa and served 15 years as a Director for the Mallard Creamery. After selling the dairy, he farmed and worked part-time for the Palo Alto Farm Service.

In 1958, he and his family moved to a farm five miles south of Spencer.  Dennis farmed and milked cows until his retirement in 1976. While living in Spencer, he served as a director on the Farmer's Elevator Board for 11 years, helped start the Clay County Beef Association and was a 4-H leader in Riverton Township.  He was active with the Spencer Golden K Kiwanis for many years.

For the last 29 years, Dennis and Ferne spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz., where he was very involved with the pool teams.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Katherine Schuller; and two sisters: Dorothy Currans and Agnes Zatlouka.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ferne of Spencer; one daughter, Carol Thoma of Laurens; three sons: George and his wife, Joyce of Alta, Ron and his wife, Margaret of Omaha, Neb., and Roger and his wife, Patty of Omaha, Neb; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Aloysius Schuller; and one sister, Rosalinda Grethen.
