Gary Raymond Kress, 70, of Okeechobee, Florida, formerly of Laurens, passed away suddenly July 13, 2007, at his home.

A memorial services was held at the Community Center at Palm Village Retirement Community on July 17, 2007.

He was born to Gladys and John Kress on April 5, 1937, in Laurens.

Gary attended school in Laurens and enlisted in US Navy where he spent the next 31 years. He was stationed in various ports, England, Norfolk, Va., Jacksonville, Fla., Mayport, Fla., Orlando, Fla. and several Mediterranean cruises. He attained the rank of Quarter Master Master Chief.

After his retirement from naval service he was a postal carrier in Winter Park, Florida for 10 years.

Gary and his wife Barbara (Gajewski ) were married for 37 years. The couple lived in Palm Villiage Ranch, Okeechobee, Fla. where they were enjoying retirement.

He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Wayne and his parents, John and Gladys Kress.

Gary is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Deborah Helmke and husband, Steve of Spencer; sons: Kelly Kress and wife, Bridget of Waterloo, and Kevin Kress of Spencer; 10 grandchildren; brothers: Dennis Kress and wife, Darlene of Joliet, Ill., and David Kress and wife, Jane of Yankton, S.D.; and a sister, Karen Callahan and husband, Pat of Hot Springs, S.D.
