Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today (Tuesday, July 3), at Zion Lutheran Church of Ayrshire for 54-year-old Dale Allan Pomeroy of Ruthven, who died in a motorcycle crash over the weekend.

Clay County Sheriff's Deputies think Pomeroy missed a curve at about 2:55 a.m. Saturday in Gillett Grove. At about 3:05 a.m., Saturday, a Clay County deputy on patrol discovered the motorcycle accident at the intersection of 280th Avenue and 435th Street in the community.

An accident summary said Pomeroy was northbound through Gillett Grove and appeared to have driven through a curve at the intersection at 435th Street.

"It appears the driver took evasive actions but was unable to negotiate the curve, entered onto the non-traveled portion of the roadway and lost control," the report said.

"A passenger, David Barsotti, of Ayrshire was ejected from the motorcycle and received unknown but non-life threatening injuries. Barsotti was transported to Spencer Municipal Hospital where his condition is not known. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene."

Arrangements for Pomeroy are being handled by Warner's Funeral Home of Spencer. He was born in Fort Dodge and spent his early childhood in Laurens. He graduated from high school in Ayrshire and went on to earn a degree in meat-cutting from Iowa Tech.

Pomeroy was known to work various jobs, from being a meat cutter at Joyce's Foods to selling Electrolux vacuums. He was also skilled in carpentry work and often helped an older relative with upkeep, including mowing lawns and shoveling snow.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Pomeroy of Ruthven; his three boys: Casey Pomeroy and his wife, Tonya, and Shayne Pomeroy -- all of Woodbine, and Calvin Pomeroy of Ruthven. He had one grandson.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Webb Fire and Rescue, Dickens Fire and Rescue, and Spencer Municipal Hospital.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
