LaVern 'Cliff' Clifford

Funeral services for LaVern "Cliff" Clifford, 82, of Spencer, formerly of Milford, were held Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at Union Memorial Church in Milford. Mr. Clifford passed away Monday, June 18, 2007, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Honorary casket bearers were Angela Lynn Clifford, Tracy Ann Gonzalez, Kristen Sue Clifford, Heather Christine Caissie, David Brandon Barber, Tara Marie Phillips, Trivia Mae Phillips, and Dolly Anders Phillips.

LaVern passed away Monday, June 18, 2007, at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

LaVern Dwight Clifford was born to Elmer and Bernice (Miller) Clifford at Spencer, on July 29, 1924. He attended Excelsior High School, graduating in 1942.

On May 2, 1943, he married Ellowene Mae Boers. Cliff served his country in central Europe as a communications chief during W.W. II. He was honorably discharged on June 29, 1946.

Cliff attended the Coyne Electrical and Radio-Television School from 1950 through 1952. After graduating he opened his own shop for radio-television repair in Milford.

In 1966, Cliff gave up the radio-television business to work for the U.S. Mail Service driving a star route between the Spencer and Windom, Minn. Post Offices.

In 1976, he went to work for the City of Milford on the street maintenance crew. He retired from the City of Milford in 1987.

Upon his retirement from the city he went to work/play at the Okoboji Vu Golf Course for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Bernice Clifford.

LaVern is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ellowene Clifford of Spencer; his children: Bill Clifford and his wife, Brenda of Spirit Lake, and Cindy Phillips and her husband, Greg of Elk River, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Clifford of Milford; and one sister, Marita Moll of Lola, Mont.

The Turner Funeral Home of Milford is in charge of service arrangements.
