Funeral services for Phyllis Helen Oviatt, 69, of Spencer will be held Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Rev. Harry McAlpine will officiate the 10 a.m. service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Mrs. Oviatt passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Spencer Hospital.

Visitation will continue all day today, with the family present from 5 - 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Casket bearers will be Philip Oviatt, Jeff Oviatt, John Hein, Aharon Stoeckel, Luc Stoeckel, Chris Stoeckel and Austin Sondag.

Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery of Spencer.

Phyllis, the daughter of P.E. and Helen (Sweeney) Fogarty, was born on Feb. 4, 1938, in Lake Park. She was raised in northwest Iowa and attended school in Gillett Grove where she participated in six-on-six basketball and was a member of the All County Basketball Team. She graduated from high school in 1956.

On Oct. 13, 1956, Phyllis was united in marriage to Dwain Oviatt in Ayrshire. To this union, six children were born. They farmed for eight years within Clay County and also owned and operated the Colonial Motel in Spencer for seven years. Phyllis was a dedicated employee of the Spencer Municipal Hospital for over 30 years. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Philip; brothers: Joe and Tim Fogarty; brother-in-law, Delmer Oviatt; sister-in-law, Doris Pierce and her husband, Myron; and brothers-in-law: Don Elbert, Dick Dillard and Jim Finneman.

Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Dwain Oviatt of Spencer; their five children: Pat Oviatt and wife, Cindy of Spencer, Dennis Oviatt of Longmont, Colo, Kevin Oviatt of Spencer, Sheila Stoeckel and husband, David of Forest City, and Nyra Sondag and husband, Jerry of Persia; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nine brothers and sisters.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
