Dennis Ray Carlson, 54, of Granger, Ind., and formerly of Paullina, passed away Friday, June 1, at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend, Ind.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, at United Methodist Church of Sutherland. David Orthmann is officiating the 11 a.m. service.

A 1:30 p.m. graveside service will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery of Primghar. Warner Funeral Home of Sutherland is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carlson was born on February, 9, 1953, in Primghar to Arnold and Dorothy (Koch) Carlson. He graduated from Paullina High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Education from Westmar College in Le Mars.

On June 12, 1976, he married the former Jane Roos.

Mr. Carlson worked as a store manager for Wal-Mart for the past 23 years and opened many new stores across the nation. He was a member of Clay United Methodist Church, South Bend, Ind.

Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife, Jane; two sons, Troy Carlson of Watervliet, Mich., and Chad Carlson of Granger, Ind.; his mother, Dorothy Fischer of Hartley; two brothers, Douglas (Sandi) Carlson of Orange City and Steven (Donita) Carlson of Sutherland; one sister, Deborah (David) Orthmann of Sutherland and one half-sister, Kimberly Fischer of Sheldon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carlson was preceded in death by his father, who passed away in 1971.
