Mary Myrl (Muetzel) DeVries of Edina, Minn., passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007.
A celebration of life and resurrection service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2007, at Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina.
An opportunity to visit the family will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Fireside Room of Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Rd. in Edina.
Interment will be private at Lakewood Cemetery of Minneapolis, Minn.
Mary was born in Toledo on Oct. 27, 1932. She grew up in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Spencer High School. She then obtained a teaching degree from the then Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls.
Mary taught elementary education in the schools of Perry and Boone. She lived in Cedar Rapids, Parkersburg, Albia and Harlan in Iowa; as well as Silver Spring and Rockville, Md. before moving to Wayzata, Minn. and subsequently to Edina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrrel and Edith Muetzel; and sisters: Barbara Ray and Jeanne Collinge.
Mary is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles Henry DeVries of Edina; a daughter, Joy Annette Englund and husband, John of Burnsville, Minn.; sons: Timothy Thomas and wife, Kimberly of Richfield, Minn., Stephen Charles and wife, Halcyon of Eagan, Minn., and John Marc and wife, Brenda of Delano, Minn.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters: Beverly Nereng and husband, Ray of LaCrosse, Wis. and Jackie Wims and husband, Larry of Valencia, Calif.
Memorials may be given according to the donor's choice. Some of Mary's preferences are Normandale Lutheran Church Foundation, The Salvation Army, The American Cancer Society and N.C. Little Memorial Hospice.
