Funeral services for Theo Hoogeterp, 74, of Sheldon, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. David Brower will officiate.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sheldon.

Interment will be at East Lawn Cemetery of Sheldon.

Theo passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon.

Theo, the son of Hillibrand and Anna (De Boer) Hoogeterp, was born on May 15, 1933, in Newkirk. He received his education in the Orange City Schools. After high school he worked in upholstery and then at the Campbell Soup Cannery. Theo was united in marriage to Johanna te Velde on June 23, 1954, in Brooten, Minn. After their marriage the couple made their home on the south edge of Sheldon, where he built his buildings to house his home and his upholstery business. Theo had an upholstery business for 27 years; he also worked as a custodian for the Sheldon School System for years and at Security State Bank for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Timothy; two sisters: Rev. Hatty "Goldie" and Charlie Duncan, and Jenny and Herman Buren.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon.

Theo is survived by his wife, Johanna of 52 years; their three children: Harlan Hooogeterp and his wife, Aletha of Canton, S.D., Steven Hoogeterp and his wife, Corrine of Spencer, and Karen Varner and her husband, Steven of Sheldon; six grandchildren; and a sister, Wilma Weaver and her husband, Clyde of Milford.
