A celebration of Elaine K. Cooke's life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church of Ruthven.

Elaine passed away Dec. 2, 2006, in Mexico, Mo.

Elaine, also known as Snookie, was born Dec. 20, 1934, in Ruthven. She grew up on the family farm in rural Ruthven and graduated from Gillett Grove High School. Her kind spirit led her to help others and she worked at the Spencer Hospital before her marriage to Allen Rouse in 1954. This union brought Elaine to California, where her daughters were born and raised.

After raising her girls, Elaine returned to Iowa in 1979 after ending her first marriage. She enjoyed returning to her childhood hometown, and being close to her parents. Elaine worked in Spencer.

Elaine met Clarence Cooke in 1984, they were rarely apart since then. They married in August of 1985. They had a home in Weslaco, Texas and spent summers in Iowa when not traveling.

Elaine is survived by the love of her life, Clarence Cooke; her mother, Miriam Burg; daughters, Jo Hamlin and husband, Ralph of Arizona, and Jeri Rouse of California; sister, Betty Fitzloff and husband, Pete of Wyoming; children: Larry Cooke and wife, Janice of Missouri, Linda Kraft and husband, Larry of North Carolina, and Karen Steil and husband, Richard of Texas; seven grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements will be hosted by Martin Mattice, Emmetsburg.
