Funeral services for George Lee Mallory, 87 of Spencer will be held at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, March 20, 2007 at Warner Chapel of Spencer. Rev. Gary Nims will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery of Spencer.

Military services will be conducted by VFW Clay County Post 3159.

Casket bearers will be Steve Loerts, Bob Krile, Lane Kunnath, Frank Snider, Scott Alger and Dick Montgomery.

Honorary bearers will be Dan Boyd, George Fieselmann, Bud Fisher and Bob Taylor.

George passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Spencer Hospital.

George, the son of Robert Holloway Mallory and Elizabeth Heafer Mallory, was born Aug. 14, 1919, in Henderson, Kent. His childhood years were spent in the Henderson area, where he received his early education. He graduated from Weaverton High School in Henderson in 1937. In 1943 he entered the United States Army and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 30th Engineer Battalion, serving in the American, EAME and Asiastic-Pacific Theaters. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and moved to Keokuk.

 On June 21, 1947, he married Joanne Tyus at Druid Hills Methodist Church in Atlanta, Ga. The couple resided in Ames until he graduated from Iowa State College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in animal husbandry.

Later that year, the couple moved to Spencer where George was employed by Prudential in its mortgage loan and real estate department. He later formed his own real estate brokerage, specializing in farm real estate sales until his retirement in 1984. George also served on the Clay County Board of Supervisors from 1972 to 1976. He was a long-time member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne; his parents; a step-father, Guy Otis Cook; and a sister, Carolyn H. Mallory.

George is survived by his daughter, Patricia Robidoux and husband, John W. of Lincoln, Neb.; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
