Amos John Julius Simon, 88, of Sioux Rapids, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2007, in the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center at Storm Lake.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., today, Saturday, March 10, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. Rev. Al Reicks will officiate the Mass for Christian Burial.

Interment will be at Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids.

Amos, the son of Firman Martin and Mary (Pfeiffer) Simon, was born on July 25, 1918, at Early. Amos was the oldest of nine children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. The family farmed in the Early and Odebolt areas until moving to Sioux Rapids in 1932. Amos was a 1936 graduate of the Sioux Rapids Consolidated School.

He was united in marriage to Helen Marie Mueller of Peterson, on Nov. 30, 1939. This union was blessed with six children: Carol, Ken, Dick, Darwin, Virginia, and Bonnie. Amos was engaged in farming in the Sioux Rapids area and he was very devoted to his vocation. In addition to farming, he was also employed by Ranco in Sioux Rapids for over 30 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Sioux Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren: Mary Louise and Richard Dale; a great-grandson, Nicholas Thomas; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Simon; his sister, Caroline; and his two brothers: Don and Clarence.

Amos is survived by his wife, Helen of Sioux Rapids; his children: Carol Stoop of and husband, Bob of Henderson, Nevada, Ken of Sioux Falls, S.D., Dick of Havelock, Darwin and wife, Jacquelyn Elfmann of Des Moines, Virginia Rabel and husband, Tom of Fostoria, and Bonnie Somers of Dallas, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann Wilson of Cortez, Colo.; and four brothers: Frances Simon of Odebolt, Al Simon and wife, Dawn of Colorado Springs, Colo., George Simon and wife, Shirley of Sioux Rapids, and Paul Simon and wife, Betty of Rolling Meadows, Ill.

The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
