Funeral services for Mr. Charles Thurston, 87 of Spencer will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 10, 2007 at First Congregational Church of Spencer. Rev. Wendy Van Tassell will officiate the service.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Warner Funeral Home.

Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery of Spencer.

Charles passed away Monday, March 5, 2007 at home in Spencer.

Casket bearers will be Cory Sorrell, Josh Sorrell, James Thurston, Kevin Cronk, Kenny Cronk and Kerry Cronk.

Charles "Chick" Henry Thurston, the son of Charles E. and Neenah Thurston, was born Aug. 18, 1919 in Spencer. He received his education and graduated from Spencer High School and later joined the Coast Guard.

On Aug. 11, 1946, Charles married Ruth (Fraser) at the First Christian Church in Spencer.  Following their marriage, he worked in sales at Sportsman's in Spencer for 10 years and later in sales at Herbster's Electric in Spencer.  After retirement, he helped his wife in the restaurant.  Since Charles enjoyed all kinds of sports he became a basketball referee and baseball coach.

Charles lived in Spencer all of his life and was a member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and twin brother, Elmer.

Charles is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth of Spencer; one son, Blaine Thurston and his wife, Judy of Spencer; one daughter, Laurie Sorrell of Spencer; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elvinah Davis of Mason City.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
