John Lee Wilbur, 67, of Sioux City, formerly of Spencer, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at St. Luke Orthopedics Hospital of Sioux City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at Warner Chapel of Spencer. Rev. Jeff Filkins will officiate the service. Interment will take place at North Lawn Memorial Park of Spencer.
Casket bearers are Jeanna Richter, Gary Richter, Jeff Wilbur, Cory French, Jen Nelson, John Wilbur Jr. and Michael Wilbur.
Mr. Wilbur, son of Norman and Mary (O'Neill) Wilbur was born Aug. 30, 1939, in Ponca, Neb. His childhood years were spent in Newcastle, Neb., and in Spencer, where he attended grade school and high school. In May of 1970, John received a brick laying certification in Fort Dodge.
He was united in marriage to Barbara Marble in Spencer on May 16, 1966. They had three children: Jeanna, Jeff and Jen. John married Tina Overeen on May 20, 1983, in Spirit Lake. This marriage was blessed with two children, John Jr. and Michael Wilbur.
Throughout his life, John lived in Newcastle, Neb.; Spencer, Garden City, Kan., Peterson and most recently, Sioux City. His vocations included construction work and packing plant work.
Mr. Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers-in-law.
He is survived by his five children Jeanna of Hartley, Jefferson of Spencer, Jennifer of Ireton, John Jr. of Estherville and Michael of Ruthven; six grandchildren; seven sisters: Mary Kay Stewart of Iowa City, Frances Lundberg of Green Valley, Ariz., Judy (Henry) Groen of Shakopee, Minn., Bonnie French (Dennis) Watters of Iowa City, Linda Grifhorst of Iowa City, Lana (Richard) Edens of Eagan, Minn., Peggy Jo (Butch) Espey of Byron, Minn., many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
