The Grammys: Adele vs Minaj

Posted Monday, February 13, 2012, at 11:10 AM

Adele and Nicki Minaj proved once again Sunday night that ability can prevail against showmanship.

Coming off surgery to her vocal cords, Adele received a standing ovation following her simple on-stage performance, demonstrating her amazing vocal talent in the wake of her medical procedure.

She did something that's rarely done on these live award shows anymore, she actually sang. She stood there and belted out "I Could Have Had It All," answering all questions about her abilities.

On the other side of the coin, Minaj assaulted viewers with an inflammatory performance of "Roman Holiday," depicting an exorcism an including erie chanted lines from "Come All Ye Faithful."

I wasn't surprised by Minaj's act. She's know for being a bit "over the top," but this was offensive on a variety of levels - perhaps what she was going for.

In any event, the night's outcome paid tribute to the true talent. Adele left the stage with six awards; Minaj, well she left the stage.

Sorry Randy, but Adele's song is titled "Rolling In The Deep". Not "We could of had it all".

Thanks for the correction MotherTiger. You can tell I'm a bit out of the loop on pop music today, despite listening to it in the car with my kids. In any event, my thoughts remain, Adele vs. Minaj is a no-contest, first round knockout!

"A bit out of the loop." Yet you soldier on....

You are quite out of the loop, most performances anymore are live.

Nicki Minaji is just a Lady Gaga Copy-Cat. The type of performance Nicki Minaji did wasn't appropriate for the Grammy's(the MTV Music Awards, maybe).

Adele is a good Role Model for other aspiring singers, she proves that you don't have to go over the top with what you wear and that her "music isn't for the eyes it's for the ears." Which is obvious with her 6 Grammy wins.

Oh, well the Grammy's this year to me, was about Remembering Whitney Houston and Awarding Adele on a job well done! Not watching Lady Gaga I mean Nicki Minaji depicting an exorcism.
