This is my first blog journey here at The Daily Reporter! Although I've been writing and blogging for several years, I'm new "here" and feeling a little excited about bringing some very interesting artists to you; opening their doors and inviting you into their studios!

The Artisans Road Trip is now in it's 8th year. It was an idea tossed around by several area artists, some familiar with similar events held in parts of Iowa and other states.

The idea was to get people out of their homes and to the artist's studios; a weekend event, a road trip! The first weekend of October is the time of year the A.R.T. participants host the Artisans Road Trip, a great time for a drive to different area destinations. From Iowa's Great Lakes region and east, down through the hills along the Little Sioux River Valley, to the Storm Lake area and back up around Spencer itself (and many stops between). It's a great time out and about for everyone!

A.R.T. 2011 artists consist of painters, potters, sculptors, wood turners, photographers, furniture artisans, jewelry artisans, print makers, and more. To get an overview of the event and all the artists, you can visit the 2011 Artisans Road Trip web site at -

The various artists are listed in the "Gallery" link and each person is featured on their own pages with media, location, individual websites, contact information, etc.

In the next blog we'll be introduced to Spencer pottery artist Mel Myers, and there are many more to come, as well as area exhibits throughout the year featuring the artists of A.R.T. Stop by for the view!

Blogger Bio - Bruce Morrison is an artist of the Tallgrass Prairie (Painter/Photographer/Print Maker). He and his wife Georgeann live on a small Tallgrass Prairie remnant where he works as a full-time artist throughout the year. Bruce takes his inspiration from the Tallgrass itself and the natural and cultural heritage of the tallgrass prairie region. Morrison graduated from the School of Art at the University of Iowa. His work can be found in public, corporate and private collections across the United States, Canada and overseas. Blog description - Bruce writes the blog for northwest Iowa's Artisans Road Trip and will share the daily process and ventures taken by area artists participating in each year's A.R.T. event.
