Liberals/ConservativesPosted Friday, August 24, 2012, at 10:01 AM
We apply labels to ourselves and others apply labels to us as well. I label myself a conservative and I am a Catholic. I am also a gymrat and a runner. However, I am not always those things 100% all the time. There are attributes of all those that I am and others I question.
Some of my extended family is Conservative and some are Liberal. My Aunt once said to me, "I'm a Democrat because my daddy was a Democrat." I respectfully said to her that the Democrats of Grandpa's time are not the Democrats of today.
One of my liberal cousins posted the following to her FB page:
When John F. Kennedy accepted the New York Liberal Party's endorsement of his Presidential Candidacy on September 20, 1960, he said the following:
What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label "Liberal?" If by "Liberal" they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer's dollar, then the record of this party and its members demonstrate that we are not that kind of "Liberal." But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."
John F. Kennedy
As a conservative I believe in those ideals too. Why is it that Liberals think we don't care about the welfare of the people? I think we just feel that the solutions should be more centered on empowering those people rather than enabling them. What do you think about the differences? Are our beliefs really that different? Am I way off? Please be considerate in your responses.

My name is Leah Cauthron. I was born and raised on a farm near Cushing, Iowa. My parents still live there. I am a conservative Catholic. I have been married to Randy for 22 years and we have six children. I received my degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Wyoming College and as a mother of six and a daycare mom, I have used probable cause, reasonable doubt, search and seizure, Miranda rights, submission, arrest and interrogation technique as a part of my daily life. I can also shoot a .357 magnum with deadly accuracy. I have lots of opinions on lots of things. I am not an expert on anything but I read a lot and will gladly share that information if I find it accurate. I have a sarcastic nature and for the most part I have pretty thick skin and most things don't bother me for long. I don't like mudslinging or name calling so keep negativity of the personal nature to yourself. Enjoy and welcome to my opinion.
