Do trailer park owners have to abide by the same ordinances?

Posted Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 9:54 AM

I understand the necessity of community ordinances that encourage residents to keep their property neat and tidy so I will keep my grass under 8 inches and I will offer to mow the yard of the vacant house next door. I will even cut my trees to the proper height. But I wish someone from the city would make our community trailer park owners clean up their properties too. If they are in city limits then they should have to keep it cleaned up. I don't know what law governs trailer park owners but if I have to keep my grass cut they should have to remove abandoned, dilapidated trailers and the residents should have to keep their dwellings neat and tidy just as the rest of us do.

This is one of my pet peeves. You do not have to wonder "what law governs trailer park owners". You can find the law. Look it up.

sounds like a severe lack of pride on the person that owns the mobile home park!

I have to be honest...this is somewhat self serving as we live right next to one out on West 4th and it is a D.U.M.P. There are more abandoned, rundown trailers than there are ones that are occupied. There are some missing skirting, roofing, doors and windows. There are some covered entirely in black wrap. The police often sit at the end of our dead end street and watch the happenings at the park. It devalues everyone's property value and now with the West byway going in to the industrial park, it will be seen by more people. The owners have been allowed to let it go and its time the city stepped up and started fining them.

Oh Leah, Thank you for saying what has been on my mind for some time. I have the understanding that their is a seperate standard for trailer parks and do not know why that is. (Just my opinion) but I think the city should crack down on the trailer parks in the area and they should be cleaned up. How does it look to people coming into the community when they see these areas? Anyone else in the city must abide by these codes and in a timely manner or suffer the consequences. You can't have appliances in the yards, overgrown yards, and other nuisances. I do have to admit that of the 4 trailer parks 2 do a pretty good job so it is not all trailer parks. But again Thank Leah for putting that out there.

I agree with leah, the trailer park is an eye sore. Clean it up and make it look better. Just because you live in a "trailer park" doesn't mean you can live like trash.

You make a very excellent point. While I also agree that no one should be told what to do with their own property, I also take a firm stand that if I have to follow the rules, then so do you. It's only fair!

I think children understand this concept better than adults do! :)

I agree that the same laws should apply. A double standard type of ordinance is absurd.

But at the same time I also think there should be no ordinance telling people what they have to do with their own property.

so i'm torn.
