I just read in the Sioux City Journal about a family whose child was injured in an accident that occurred during a parade. A team of horses pulling a wagon got spooked and the owner's wife was thrown from the wagon. She was killed. Spectators were injured and some of them are suing the horse owners and the city for negligence. I do not agree with this mentality at all.
Don't we take risks in everything we do everyday? Every choice we make from the products we use, the food we eat, the cars we drive, the routes we take, and the events we attend. It all involves risks to some degree or another and we take personal responsiblity in making decisions that affect ourselves. We have become a sue happy society. Lawyers and judges and insurance companies have gotten rich on the mentality and good people suffer and pay through the nose for it. Life is about making choices, taking risks and the subsequent consequences of those. Placing blame and monetary value on injuries helps no one. Stay home, lock your doors and don't leave if you can't accept responsibility for your own choices.
