FREE Program: Storm Chasers

Posted Monday, April 11, 2011, at 5:01 PM

Just in time for the advent of severe weather season, Spencer Public Library will be joined by representatives from Chasing4Life on Monday, April 25th at 7:30pm for an exciting and informative program. Learn about storm chasing, severe weather history, and current climate challenges. Chasing4Life's mission is to educate the public about disaster awareness and how to be prepared in the event of the emergency that you never thought would happen. Whether it is a tornado, flood, blizzard, or even terrorist attack, there are things you can do to protect your family!

Be watching this space for more information in the next few days.

Nothing can beat the Midwest for extreme weather, so don't miss this great program!

I am a longtime fan of the Spencer Public Library. It was one of the first places I went to when my family moved to NW Iowa from California nearly 40 years ago (Yikes!) and I took my children there regularly when they were small.

It was at the Spencer Library that I first started looking for guides for the budding writer, and though I only found two books at that time, those two set me firmly on the path to my present career.

I knew Dewey when he was a kitten. When I was too broke to buy the magazines I wanted I'd go to the library to read them, and sometimes Dewey would sidle up to me as I sat curled in a comfortable chair. More than once he hopped up on my lap and kept me company.

I'm hoping to make it to the Chasing4Life event next Monday evening. Keep up the good work!

I would really like to do some storm chasing this spring but I would need a partner. I'm disabled and have quit driving because I have COPD and if I cough too hard I pass out. Except for wheels I have most of the other equipment. I have a lot of camera equipment and a laptop with GPS. This class might teach a little meteorology. That would definitely be handy. I would like to do it just locally. Can't go to Kansas or anything, but I would be willing to split expenses and if we could sell videos or stills I would split the profits. But I'm in it for the fun and excitement. So if anybody is of the same mind, I'll be the one with a beard, ponytail, and a cane. I have to bum rides from a friend and whether I get there or not depends on his schedule but I'll try. I'm really pumped up about this. I wonder if there is a certificate or anything. Maybe there are other classes more tuned for storm chasers somewhere near by. I think I saw something on Sioux City TV about one down there but maybe there is something closer. Did I mention that I'm pumped up about this? See ya there.
