NO MORE REMAKESPosted Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 12:08 PM
Remake, after remake, after remake! Where does it end? It seems as though we can no longer push our imaginations farther than where they have already gone....Or maybe that's just because the same writers are being used. Personally, I feel as though they have squeezed every ounce of juice from "reputable" writers in the "Hollywood biz" and now the only thing left is remakes. Or perhaps, Hollywood writers make such huge money for their work; they no longer have the ambition to put forward any creativity. At least they keep all the competition at a considerable distance because new writers everywhere know how hard it is to get anyone to look at your work or even acknowledge that you ever contacted them. Why, you may be asking is this relevant? What am I rambling about now?
I am sick and tired of "Hollywood" taking great classic movies and remaking them. Come on, come up with some ideas of your own or at least hire new people who will. Take for example the wonderful, timeless movie of Steel Magnolias. With actresses like Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Daryl Hannah, and Shirley MacLaine the movie was an instant hit no matter what the age group. Now in the twenty- first century, we feel the need to remake the movie and replace Dolly Parton with Queen Latifah. WHAT? How does that work? I mean how in the world do they compare to each other? Oh yes, the rest of the actresses will be also replaced by African --American ones. I can't help but wonder- Didn't they already have a movie like that? I think it was called Beauty Shop. Some other bad movie remakes would be like the recent Footloose, Bewitched, Karate Kid, Arthur, or even Star Wars. Don't get me wrong the new Star War movies were so visually stunning but that was also the downfall. How do you go from special effects awesome to the older version which just seems bland in comparison? Now we have a brand new remake coming soon, Carrie. I personally do not watch scary movies because they traumatize me and this is one of the movies that did so as a kid. That and Freddy Kruger- (Which by the way, MOM, who lets a four old watch Freddy Kruger? ) Anyways, back on topic; Do we really need to remake this movie? What's next.... Dirty Dancing? Pretty Woman? Even Jaws is a wonderful classic. All these movies are great and don't need to be touched or redone whatsoever. Not all remakes are horrible... there are some good ones that needed a new face because of our technology advancements. But movies that actually have a great storyline with no one shooting each other should be left alone! Period! I hope, really hope that in a couple of years I don't ever see Queen Latifah wearing a pink dress and being called "Baby" by Will Smith. I'm originally a small town girl from Primghar but moved to Spencer because of the big city shopping with small town appeal. Okay, maybe that's not the whole truth. I hate driving in snow. Living in Spencer allows me to never have to leave town in the winter! I'm a 26 year old mother of three children ages 6, 5, and 4. Yes, that's how old they are. Yes, I know. Please stop laughing. I am currently enrolled in Iowa Lakes Community College for my Business Degree with hopes for someday having my own online clothing store. When I'm not doing homework, chasing kids, or cleaning house I love to write. Writing is my release and I currently have been working on screenplays I hope will someday become Oscar worthy motion pictures. I must warn you that I do at times have a twisted sense of humor, so I hope that when reading my blogs of whatever topic I may joke about, you leave with a smile and a whole new perspective!

Agreed and I also have to say that I am sick and tired of these documentry movies too. Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity were done fine, but stop with all the others. Or at least go directly to rentals so we don't waste our money at the movies!!!!
You are so right! When does it end? Where is the creativity and imagination like we had in the 80's? The blockbuster movies like Ghostbusters, for example. They just dont make em like they used to.
With all the smart phones, ipads, and talking GPS's they oughta remake Terminator just to remind people what could happen if we let machines rule our lives.
Leah, that is a great idea for a remake. Maximum Overdrive would be better. All the new gadgets would put a great twist on that flick.
Hollywood will quit making remakes when the movie goers stop making them so much money for their atrocities on screen.
Truthfully, I think 3D movies are another waste of time and money and just another way to gouge those who really can't afford it anyway. We skip them.
