Skate Park Dilemma
Posted Tuesday, August 19, at 8:52 AM
I've heard talk by that I mean rumors, that Spencer is going to add a camera system to the skate park in the hopes that monitoring this park will help them crack down on "illegal" bikers using the skating area. Apparently, bikes are prohibited from being used on the skate park arena...

Uganda? You Gotta be kidding me is right
Posted Sunday, March 23, at 11:36 AM

I went to the library as always searching for a good read. Instead, I found myself in the writing section picking up books to help improve my writing capabilities. On the way out, I caught sight of a book with Chelsea Handler. I used to be a fan of hers for her talk show Chelsea Lately, but her mouth proved to be much more filth than I could handle. ...

The Feeling of Christmas
Posted Sunday, December 15, at 3:44 PM

As a child Christmas was excitable for obvious reasons.....presents! Of course, growing up I was taught the underlying messages of what Christmas actually meant such as: Jesus's birth, being thankful, the joys of giving, and spending time with family and friends. ...

A Smile in Unexpected Places
Posted Thursday, October 3, at 12:00 PM

I learned a valuable lesson last night. Everyday there is always an opportunity to make someone smile. I was at the Lazer Car Wash across from Spencer late last night and spent an impressive 10 minutes making my truck look as beautiful as I possible could. After a job well done, I pulled forward and waited for the door to open...

Pocket Knives On Planes?
Posted Friday, March 15, at 2:28 PM

It's kind of strange that a heated debate going on right now would include whether to let people carry knives onto a plane or not? Is it just me or does this sound like the dumbest question I have ever heard in my life? Granted pocket knives have their limitations and are more common in pockets than actual money but they are what they are: Knives...

Are you Serious?
Posted Saturday, December 29, at 8:13 PM

How is it possible that Americans have become so greedy and hungry for the almighty dollar that they forget to behave like decent human beings? A new lawsuit has come forward in the Connecticut shooting. An unidentified client is taking legal action in the demands of $100 million dollars because " the client (child) heard cursing, screaming, and shooting over the intercom when the gunman opened fire and as a consequence the child has sustained emotional and psychological trauma and injury, the nature and extent of which are yet to be determined "quoted lawyer Irv Pinsky.. ...

A few thoughts on Connecticut shooting
Posted Saturday, December 15, at 2:28 AM

I'm sure the news of the recent tragedy that occurred today has reached every ear across the United States. It's something this country, every community, and certainly every parent deems their worst nightmare come true. Even those who have no children feel the heartbreaking pain that this senseless mess has left for the poor souls who must face this event as their reality. ...

Magic Mike Weekend!!!
Posted Friday, June 29, at 2:13 PM

Oh, magic, magic, wonderful magic Mike! I have to say that I am one of the millions (I'm assuming) women who will be at the movie theater this weekend to attend a movie I will tell my family is a documentary on monkeys. With actors like Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey stripping down and doing a little dance for my entertainment, how could I not go spend those dollar bills? This movie will prove to be the closest I'll ever get to adult entertainment and a wonderful excuse for a girls night out. ...

Remake, after remake, after remake! Where does it end? It seems as though we can no longer push our imaginations farther than where they have already gone....Or maybe that's just because the same writers are being used. Personally, I feel as though they have squeezed every ounce of juice from "reputable" writers in the "Hollywood biz" and now the only thing left is remakes. ...

Ellen's Dance Dare in Spencer, Iowa 2012
Posted Wednesday, February 8, at 9:59 AM

For those of you who do not watch "The Ellen Show", you may not be aware of why some people in town are randomly dancing behind people in stores. I have come to educate and clear up the mass confusion of seeing random dancers. Ellen DeGeneres has issued a "dance dare" to her audience. ...

A questionable Senior picture
Posted Saturday, January 7, at 5:36 PM

Remember Senior Pictures? Believe it or not this was a Senior picture submitted by Sydney Spies of Colorado. For obvious reasons not understood by this wannabe future Playboy pictorial, the editors of the High School decided not to allow this for her senior picture in the yearbook. ...

Wrapping Christmas Cheer

Christmas season is filled with all kinds of wonderful traditions. Making cookies, decorating the tree, driving around to look at the pretty Christmas lights, and visiting Santa. These kinds of things are expected every year and make Christmas fun and cheerful for everyone. However, this year we decided that Christmas needed something extra special. Something never done before for someone special to complete a perfect Christmas season. What better than a Christmas Prank!...

Dear Rick Perry
Posted Tuesday, December 13, at 9:29 PM

Northwest Iowa's guide to Mountain Lions
Posted Wednesday, December 7, at 6:25 PM

There's a buzz going around of possible Mountain Lions in Northwest Iowa. One picture circulating Facebook, which was taken by a trail camera, shows a large cat attacking a Buck. Everyone seems to be excited yet scared of what this new possibility may mean for us small town Iowans. I've done some research and good news people, there's no need to fear. This Mountain Lion threat does have some positive aspects. Let's review...

Black Friday at Wal-Mart in Spencer Iowa

My name is Alyce Townsend. I have lived in Spencer, Iowa for the last 6 and half years. I'm originally a small town girl from Primghar but moved to Spencer because of the big city shopping with small town appeal. Okay, maybe that's not the whole truth. I hate driving in snow. Living in Spencer allows me to never have to leave town in the winter! I'm a 26 year old mother of three children ages 6, 5, and 4. Yes, that's how old they are. Yes, I know. Please stop laughing. I am currently enrolled in Iowa Lakes Community College for my Business Degree with hopes for someday having my own online clothing store. When I'm not doing homework, chasing kids, or cleaning house I love to write. Writing is my release and I currently have been working on screenplays I hope will someday become Oscar worthy motion pictures. I must warn you that I do at times have a twisted sense of humor, so I hope that when reading my blogs of whatever topic I may joke about, you leave with a smile and a whole new perspective!
