Please spread the word that Sophie needs a home where she can stay forever.
Guess what? I have a new foster dog in the house. She is quite the spirited little pit bull girl with big, brown eyes. The kind of eyes that you can see the spark in everytime you look at them. There is no sadness, only joy emitting from every tail wag she has.
In true dog form, her past is behind her, and she lives for the moment. She is young, around 2 years old and can be a bit pushy. I waited about 2 weeks before I allowed any contact between her and Ike. She has never shown any aggression towards him, but is much bigger and is constantly trying to entice him to play. She's a bit overwhelming for him, and he does his best to put her in her place. She will back down for a split second, but is right back in his grill the next second. It is good to see that she does not fight back.
Sophie Rose is completely house trained and can be left alone in the house without incident. She has been spayed, is current on her vaccinations, has been wormed and is gaining some weight. She is currently about 50lbs. with probably 5-10 to gain.
We are working on manners and she is food motivated. She will sit, lay down, wait, stay, and come when in the house. As the weather warms we will be working on these same skills outside.
Today was our first walk with our walking group and she did great! I do use a gentle leader when we walk as she is extremely strong and sort of like a bull in a china closet. Again, with time, patience and practice improvement will be made. Sophie was excited to see some new pups, and while watching her body language, I quickly saw that she is going to be good with other dogs. Because she is a bit rough with play, for now I would recommend she live in a home with larger dogs as well as older children. The cats seem to be extremely enticing, and while I don't think she would hurt them, her overwhelming playful side would be a bit much. Again, it doesn't appear to be prey driven, but with the size difference injuries could occur.
Sophie Rose is a real snuggler and is more than happy to cuddle right next to you and have a nap. At other times, she will wander into her crate to chew on a bone or catch some zzzz's in her "den".
If you or someone you know may be interested in adopting Sophie, please contact me through this post. She is a beautiful girl, with a fun personality, and is looking forward to finding her forever home soon.
