Stretching out in the cool sand at Okoboji.
My fur kids and I have had a busy week. The Clay County Fair always gives me the opportunity to earn a little extra cash while making some sacrifices. I rent my house to some awesome vendors I've known from way back in The Fireside Lounge days. I pack up, and the dogs and I head for the lake to set up camp at a lake home (or two). It's a little inconvenient, but we suck it up for 9 days in order to have some Christmas cash.
Okoboji is a beautiful place to be at this time of the year. It's very quiet, the weather is usually crisp in the morning and warms up nicely during the day so by the time I'm back from working, we can hit the beach for some rolling in the sand and lapping up of some lake water. Boomer has proven to like the beach and even ventured out onto the dock to watch the lone jet ski rider or geese that float around.
While some of Boomers world changed last week, there was one thing that did not. His morning routine. Typically in the morning I get up, let Ike and Boomer out of their crates and open the backdoor so they can go outside for a potty break. Boomer decided earlier this year that he would prefer to have breakfast first before heading out. The boy is driven by food.
Since there is no fenced in area where we stay I have to take the boys out one at a time on a leash to potty. Ike is normally barking his head off from the minute he wakes up until the minute he goes to bed, so I try and get him outside first. I tried tying him up outside while I went for B, but the barking continued so I quickly shuffled him back inside. Thinking ahead, I fed him and went for Boomers leash to get him out. I had even gotten up a little earlier so we could take a quick walk to the beach, but Boomer was not having it. He sat in the middle of the road, refusing to move, and continued to look back to the house. I attempted to coax him into moving forward, but the only direction he want to go was back home for breakfast.
I had completely messed up his world by feeding Ike first and expecting Boomer to go for a walk without breakfast! What was I thinking!?!
Lesson learned, and I did not attempt to mess with B's morning routine after that.
