Come One, Come All!Posted Monday, September 17, 2012, at 8:47 AM
Walking Johnny Danger in New Orleans, LA for Villalobos Rescue Center in January.
One of the best ways to practice this social skill is to take dogs for a walk together. Just letting them get used to having another dog in their presence is the first step. By adding a walk in there helps to keep them a bit more focused on the walk and doesn't allow nose to nose stare downs and confrontations. Taking all of this into consideration, I've decided I would like to start doing these weekly walks with all of you. My dogs could really use the practice! I'm inviting everyone to join me beginning Sunday, September 23 at 2pm. We can meet in the parking lot of Avera Medical Office on East 10th St. in Spencer. Your dog(s) must be on a leash at all times and you will clean up any messes your dog makes, so bring a bag. I like to walk for about an hour, but you can drop out as you wish. This is not a test, nor will anyone place judgement on anyone else for their dogs behavior. We are all in this together for the good of our dogs, and what a great way to meet some fellow dog lovers to swap stories with. If you don't have a dog, come anyway, meet the dogs and their owners. Many dogs, including my own, also need practice socializing with humans. This all just makes for a well rounded, good mannered dog. We can decide what time, place, and day of the week works for most people and set up a schedule. If you are wanting to join, but are not able to get there Sunday, send me a comment below of your preference, and I will keep others informed through this blog. I'm excited to meet everyone and will be waiting for you on Sunday. If the weather is wet at that time, we'll just try the following Sunday to begin. Same time, same place, same dog:-) Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |
It's a Dog's Life ![]() - Archives - Blog RSS feed - Comments RSS feed - Send email to Stephanie "Foster Mom" O'Brien - Login My name is Stephanie O'Brien. I'm an animal lover and enjoy volunteering. I have combined those passions into providing a temporary home to animals that would otherwise be sitting in a shelter or worse, euthanized due to lack of room in a shelter.
For the past two years I've fostered pit bull type dogs for a rescue in South Dakota. I've also had the opportunity to do some presentations on responsible pet ownership and have been involved in fighting breed specific legislation in SD and IA.
I'm looking forward to providing the readers with animal related topics and possibly answer any questions you may have. Enjoy!
