A new beginning awaited Tom in drug rehab. But he talked convincingly not only to his family but to rehab staff. It didn't matter that his committal was doctor ordered because of attempted suicides. The calls from neighbors who witnessed his illogical behaviors and cutting disrupted his family in the middle of the night. These were the effects of meth in his life.
It takes about 3 to 5 days for meth to get out of the body. Tom was agitated by this time and ready for a hit. His ordered time was up and he left. Drug rehab meant nothing. Meth changed his normal, rational thinking to irrational. He lost his job; therefore no money for house or car payments. Family was left with no choice but to stop their helpful actions that once enabled him. He had promised to change, you see, but never followed through. His request for money to his family was denied. It would only be used for drugs. They had to step back and let Tom be responsible for his actions. He will either hit rock bottom or die. He has little contact with them now, though he states he is clean. However, trust has been destroyed by lies. They grieve the loss of the person he once was. They sadly and helplessly await.
