There's nothing more effective to kill your dreams then the use of an illegal drug of choice. The impact these drugs have is powerful. They become more than just a vice, but a necessity to have to live, breathe and exist. The once responsible person, after the first dose, is hooked. He/She will choose to lie, cheat or steal to get their feel-good drug. Personality changes occur along with withdrawing from family and friends, distrust and hallucinations. The user's family, in sorrow and distraught, helplessly witnesses the mental and physical decline of their loved one.
It's unfortunate that the side effects I described above are also those of patients with Alzheimer's. However, they withdraw from family because of the natural effect Alzheimer's has on the brain. A different person emerges with distrust and natural hallucinations. Most of us have heard and/or seen the decline of the Alzheimer's victim. In comparison, the Alzheimer's victim has no choice when the disease takes effect even though some drugs can slow the progression. The drug user, however, does have a choice if they choose: rehab.
