We have come to my favorite hunting season of the year: Spring Turkey Hunting. There is nothing better than waking up at 5 AM to go hunt the elusive, Eastern Wild Turkey. This will be my 5th year of hunting turkeys and I still have not bagged a turkey, but I keep going back for more and here is why.....

I still haven't figured out what I like best about turkey hunting in the spring. The fresh clean smell of spring approaching, the crunching leaves as I get lost in the timber, or the loud gobble of the turkey blasting across the prairie. I will never forget my 2010 turkey hunt with my good pal Kevin Rossiter. It was around 7:15AM and a tom pitches out of his roosting tree about 150 yards from our turkey decoys. We began doing a few yelp calls with our box call and BOOM this gobbler is sprinting directly at me. And here is when my heart starts pounding. The turkey gets next to our hen decoys and begins to gobble, drum and strut. As an outdoorsman lover, this was the most unbelievable display from any animal I've ever seen. This continued on for around 45 minutes. We would yelp and he would gobble right back at us, it was amazing! Unfortunately I did not get to tag that turkey but after that amazing display from that Tom I felt like my hunting trip to Correctionville, Iowa was a success. I never did bag a turkey on this particular trip but the experience of being out in the wild and seeing that turkey was second to none.

I recommend to any hunter out there to get out to the timber this spring and give turkey hunting a try, you won't be disappointed once your out there. Good luck and Happy Hunting! Gobble Gobble!!
