600 LB WomanPosted Thursday, March 18, 2010, at 3:47 PM
There is a woman named Donna that lives in New Jersey and weighs 600 pounds. She had her daughter when she weighed 530 pounds. She is currently the Guiness Book of World Record's fattest mom. Donna is now going for the title of World's fattest woman. She is engaged to a man who weighs in under 200 pounds. She makes a living by hosting a website where people can pay to watch her eat. I have a few issues with this.
1. Why would the Guiness World Records even have such a record? Don't they realize how unhealthy it is? 2. Does Donna care about her daughter? If so, then why make your goal one that can risk your life. I mean doesn't she want to see her beautiful little girl grow up? She won't if this continues. 3. How is it possible that I've been rejected by men because of my weight (I'm a little over 200 lbs) yet this woman had no problem getting a man? 4. Once Donna reaches her goal then what will she do? Does she realize how hard it can be to lose all that weight? Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |
My name is Heather and I've lived in Northwest Iowa most of my life. I have 2 sisters of which I am the middle child. I am a proud aunt to a niece and nephew who I love and adore. I went to South Clay until I finished 6th grade. I then went to Laurens-Marathon where I graduated in 2001. From there I attended NIACC in Mason City where I recieved a college degree in 2003. I started working when I was 16 at K-Mart in Spencer. I have also worked at Wal-Mart in Spencer and at Northwest Communications in Havelock. I am one of those unlucky ones that is currently unemployed. I am also recently divorced. With the loss of a job and the end of a marriage, I am back in the home where I grew up.

1. I think that Guinness record has been around longer than we've known about the link between obesity and heart disease, fatty foods and artery clogging, etc. I think people were seen as medical/ scientific marvels if they were the tallest, shortest, fattest, etc. and Guinness did not consider the health ramifications. They also came about in a far less litigious era.
2. I think a woman who will eat by pay per view has issues that prevent her from thinking of others besides herself. This started out as emotional overeating -- which nearly 60 percent of us adults (the overweight ones) apparently do, then it got out of control, now she's using it for the attention and she thinks love and adoration that she's always been missing. She might think that if she feels whole herself, out of the love and attention, that she will be able to be a better mom. I don't think she is thinking about the risk to her life at all.
3. Do you know she had no problem getting a man? She may have supposed admirers now from her Internet pay-per-view fame, but imagine who those men are. Would you want to go out with them? Do you want to imagine their other proclivities if they would pay to watch a woman eat? What about her husband? If he's allowing her to do this for fame and money, what does it say about him? I can understand loneliness and wanting to be with someone, but you shouldn't settle. I think her husband must have issues, too.
Why have you been rejected by men because of weight? Men are fickle. I think all you can do is be as attractive and confident as you can be. Think of Callie from Grey's Anatomy -- not the lesbian thing but the fact that she is joyful and confident in her own body right now, and not deferring happiness to when she's lost 30 pounds. Eat healthy, get some exercise (I know - it's hard to get motivated) and just get out there doing what you love, to the extent it's possible. You might meet a man who loves you for you.
4. I have no idea what she will do. I'm worried that some reality show will sponsor lap/band and liposuction, etc. for her, without anything to address the issues that brought her to this point.
One should not judge a person for their choices. People risk their lives daily and most of them have children. All personal choice. Whether it be over eating, lifestyles, professions or whatever the case may be. She may need help in some people's eyes but until she sees that, there is nothing we can do. Do I think pornography is right? No. But they make money doing something they want/like to do just as this woman is doing. Would I do the same if I was in her shoes? Probably not, but I have a different outlook for myself.
Guinness Book has been around for numerous years and continues because consumers continue to buy into the notion of the 'greatest' and the 'grandest'.
What is trash in one's eyes is another's treasure/art. There are many love-ofs in this world that we may never understand but that does not make it completely wrong.
Love is not based on physical looks but inner beauty and compassion. To think that one person that is morbidly obese shouldn't have love is ignorant and sad.
Did her "man" come around after she got famous perhaps? I can't imagine being 600 lbs! I wouldn't be able to do anything I like doing! It just seems wrong. People shouldn't support her either. Do they have a record for being the largest then losing the most amount of weight? She should record herself losing weight. I'd watch that. Just ideas.
If you were rejected because of your weight then that guy wasn't worth your time anyway. If he's worth your time then he will see the beauty inside of you. (Corney I know but true.) I have plenty of overweight friends who are just stunning. Weight has nothing to do with true beauty.
As far as I've read none of the women who were the fattest woman in the world lived very long due to health issues.
I know I wouldn't want the men who pay to watch this woman eat. I've had 1 man in my life who had his odd fetishes and I don't care to have another one like him.
I appreciate your guys' advice on men! I know someone is out there and will love me for me. I just have to find him, but first I have to be completely content with myself!
It is her right to do what she wants, but since she probably doesn't pay for her own health care we should not even try to revive her when she has a heart attack. She is obviously not mentally fit and should have her child removed from her care. Where does Jerry Springer find these people?
Leave it to DownwithDems to make everything political and find the negative spin.
LOL, lake- I just read most of that comment as:
"It is her right to do what she wants, but since- IRRELEVANT POLITICAL RAMBLINGS IRRELEVANT POLITICAL RAMBLINGS IRRELEVANT POLITICAL RAMBLINGS..."
Let's be real here. Donna has mental issues. Anyone who pays to watch that also has mental issues. This world is full of enablers. Anyone who truly loves Donna will shut off the computer, make her eat salad, lean meat and fish and get her up and moving.
