We arrived safely to Cap Haitian, Haiti, on Thursday by 11:30 AM...everything on schedule up to that point. We encountered thick dense clouds coming in to Cap Haitian. As soon as we landed, the pilot announced, "we may not be flying to Pignon today." The clouds were too thick and low to navigate through the mountainous terrain that lies between Cap and Pignon. We waited in the small airport, standing, sitting on the floor, waiting to see what our next step would be. Soon, we had 2 chairs to share, then in a while we had 5 more chairs to share.
JeanJean and Kristie Mompremier, the missionary family who will be our hosts for the week, drove to Cap to transport us to their place, 45 miles....3 1/2 hours!! By 5:00 PM we were through customs with all of our luggage and cargo loaded into Mompremier's pickup another taptap and a Blazer. We bumped and jiggled and shook and giggled and agreed, "no one would believe it if we tried to describe the ride!" We arrived, finally, by 9:40 PM, tired, dirty, but thankful for the way God provides.
It is Friday morning, we have had our team orientation and now are preparing to host an afternoon Vacation Bible school with around 100 children in the area. We have Bible stories, crafts, candy, and songs ready to share. It is overcast and cool, very comfortable. Paul went with a group to do work of some sort.
Everyone is doing well, happy to be here, and ready for what is to come. Thank you for praying for our safety, we knew we would be OK!
Sincerely, Christi and the team
