Halloween fun!Posted Monday, October 26, 2009, at 7:36 PM
Looking for a good scaring this Halloween? Yeah, haunted houses are fun, but what if you want something a little more intense? Well, lets start off in Spencer. Angry Jesus statue: (I recommend going as the sun is going down.) Drive out to the cemetery next to "The Oasis," then find a spot to park that's not in the way. You'll see a statue next to the water tower, walk over to it. You'll walk between a few graves so watch your step. Look up at the Jesus's face and walk from side to side. His eyes will follow you. The story I heard states that he's angry because kids broke his fingers off. Moose Pond: This one can't be done on Halloween, but it's still interesting anyway. It's said to be haunted by the ghost of a little boy who drowned in the pond while ice fishing. They say if you go down there at 8:47 p.m. on the 23rd of December, the day the boy died, you can hear thumping on the ice and the screams of the boy under it. Riverside cemetery ghost/alien Drive out to riverside cemetery at night. Take a right and go around a curve then go straight. You don't want to go to the far right, and make sure you have your lights on. Keep going, slowly, and you'll find what looks like an alien sitting on the ground. If you keep going you will find out it's actually a statue of a dog holding a basket! Pretty cool, huh? Old Moneta School: (This one is my personal favorite.) Drive out to Moneta after dark. For those of you who don't know Moneta is just past Everly. Directions:(There's construction so you'll have to go this way.) Take Highway 18 out of Spencer towards Everly. When you get to "Barb's Corner" take a left, through Everly. When you get through Everly you'll go up a big hill and see a stop sign on your left and right. Go right that should put you on 360th St. follow that until you hit a stop sign. Go Left at the sign. Moneta will be on your right. Go up the dirt road and then take a right the first chance you get and follow the curve around the school will be on your right. As you sit outside this school you'll just get a feeling that something isn't right. It's eerie. The infamous Loon Lake Witches "Kind friends beware as you pass by, As you are now, so once was I, As I am now, so you must be, Prepare, therefore, to follow me." Yeah, I'm sure you've all heard the stories of the witches graves. Harass the girls and you won't live to tell the tail. I definitely recommend checking this one out. I'm not going to go into details at the moment, the story is too long. If you're interested look it up on google.com. http://www.unsolvedmysteries.com/usm1856... Here's a fairly decent telling of the story. H a p p y H a l l o w e e n ! ! Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Have you ever heard about the hill in Estherville? I can't tell you exactly how to get there. It is on the West end of town and on a gravel road.. I'm sure any Estherville resident would know how to get there. I think there is even a little cemetary on the gravel road. Anyway, you drive there and there is a little hill on the gravel road. You put your vehicle in neutral facing up the hill and instead of rolling backward down the hill, your car will creep up it on it's own! It is not fast but definately defies all the laws of gravity. I have done this before (many years ago) when I was a teenager and it is for real!!
Ah!! That's cool! I might have to go check that out!
