A Nation Divided No More?Posted Thursday, January 22, 2009, at 12:53 AM
Looking into the inauguration of out new President Barack Obama I'm just not quite sure what to think, and can't help but wonder just how much of it was a little over done. I understand that yes, he is of African-American descent but is the color of his skin really a good reason to show more respect towards him than a few of our former presidents? Cause so far that seems to be the main reason why people have been so excited. Not for his mind or personality but for the color of his skin. Now to be honest I wasn't so sure about his ideas on how to "fix" America but I really like his personality so I'm willing to give him a try, not because of what he is but because of Who he is.
As for the respect aspect No, I don't believe this is right. I believe that yes a president may make a mistake, even if it is a stupid one, they are human either way, but no matter how big the mistake it is important to show them respect either way. He is the leader of the United States of America. Only 44, now, can say they've "been there, done that." It is a huge responsibility and I can only imagine the kind of stress that is hidden beneath their calm disposition. Just imagine what it is like to wake up every morning put on a suit and brush your hair perfectly because you know that everything you do today is going to be watched and judged by 305,660,309 people (and counting) just in the U.S. along not to mention the 6 billion in the world that have the potential of hearing about your mistakes also. I can just imagine how it must look to the other countries in the world when we don't show respect too our leader. If we can't respect him then why should they, therefore why should they show the U.S. respect? It's too late for Former President George W. Bush but it's just the beginning for President Obama. I'm sure we won't always agree with his ideas or choices but there's no need to let the rest of the world know. A nation divided is a weak nation but I'm telling you now we are not a weak nation. Now, you can do and say what you please, that's the beauty of America but as for me I support My Country, My Troops, and My President, no matter what. |
