The international Shareable organization chose a project in Spencer for a seed grant!
If you scroll down, you will see the project proposal is quite ambitious to get together in six weeks. The seed grant is $300 when I was going for $1,000. But many projects were rejected.
Wait -- you may wonder what this is all about.
Meet the timebankers in the Spencer-Okoboji Time Bank. Babysitting, acupressure, gardening/yard work, baking and elder care are just some of the services offered in the time bank by our initial group.
Time banking has hit the news quite a bit lately. Last month after a Yahoo! Shine article, the TimeBanks USA website received a million hits.
Diane Sawyer highlighted the successful timebank helping people make ends meet while giving back to the community in her Kentucky hometown back in January.
Let's do this here.
We grabbed a coveted seed grant from Shareable. We have people willing to pitch in and people in need whom we can bring together. It's not the much maligned handouts -- it's a generative economy that lifts up anyone it touches. It's worked in communities throughout the world and even has the blessing of the IRS.
