A Passion for FashionPosted Friday, July 2, 2010, at 9:59 AM
Iowa Fashion for a Great Cause My daughter, Caitlyn, came to me a couple of weeks ago wanting to be a model in a fashion show. Frankly, I didn't think that much of the idea. My first thought was to wonder whether it would interfere with her physics and engineering camp for girls at St. Olaf College later this month. It won't. Then I read about it and found out it was a fundraiser for the Curiel-Reynolds School of Visual Arts. Suddenly, the thought of a fashion show became far more interesting. I took Caitlyn to the casting call at Fluff Boutique. If you haven't been to Fluff, located on Highway 18 in the same building as Southern Archery, you're missing out. In addition to cool fashions, they have some excellent furniture and home decor. She got in Ford model Sadie Polaschek chose three young women in the first round of casting. In addition to Caitlyn, 14, Fifteen-year-old Talor Stein and adult model Ashley Smith made the cut. Because Sadie has connections in the industry, all three young women may have the opportunity to take modeling further than the September 25 fashion show for Polaschek's Zsa Zsa and Eva fashion line. The line is so new, I, the queen of Google, could not find any information about it on the Internet when I checked to see if the fashions had enough fabric to them for my young daughter to model them in public. We're not holding our breath, but if Caitlyn is the next It girl of the couture fashion world, it wouldn't be the worst possible way to pay for the science education she desires at St. Olaf, one of our nation's most expensive colleges. Seven more Next Friday, July 9, is another casting call and another opportunity to be part of this exciting event for the great cause of expanding visual arts offerings at the Curiel-Reynolds School. In addition to the Zsa Zsa and Eva fashion show on September 25, models are invited to a show of fashions from the Clay County 4-H groups during the fair. Potential models -- give it a try! Amy and Sadie Polachek are very nice people to know, the Curiel Reynolds School is a great cause, and other opportunities abound that could lead to something really great.
